Kurt Jakusz, BSN – President/Owner

1994 BSN graduate of Winston-Salem State University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina

After serving for four years as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy, I worked as a Respiratory Therapist.  Upon receiving my nursing degree I was employed in the areas of Pediatrics, Medical Surgical, Critical Care, Post Anesthesia Care, Home Health Care Provider and as a Case Manager.  With the help of dedicated friends I founded Health & Home Services in 1998.  With 30 years of service in the medical field, I am fortunate and proud to be a part of our RN owned and managed company.  I feel that our first and foremost responsibility is to always hire, train and manage the best people available to provide care to the communities we serve.

My work experience as a CNA and RN includes over 23 years in the home health field, plus acute care experience in Medical Surgical, Oncology and Nephrology units.  I began working with Health & Home Services in June of 1999 and have gratitude and fulfillment in my position.  The mission of this agency reflects my own personal values and goals; integrity, honesty and care of the communities in which we serve.  Continuing with these values and goals are of priority importance to me.  Being a part of a nurse owned and managed agency and having the focus on our clients and staff, make a difference in the care and quality we can provide.  My experience in hospital-based nursing combined with my homecare/hospice experience allows me to understand the demands of the industry while being an advocate for both client and employee. My work experience in the medical field began in 1987 as a CNA in a nursing home.   As an RN, I have worked as a staff nurse in Critical Care and as a home health nurse.   I joined the management team of Health and Home Services in July of 2002. Before joining Health & Home Services in early 2014, I had worked in patient care at facilities in the Greensboro area with patients ranging from med/surg, rehabilitation, and Cognitive Impairments.  I worked in an Assisted Living and managed a facility of over 65 residents and 40 staff employees.  I have also worked as an RN consultant and held education classes for Medication Aide technicians.

I am pleased to be a part of the growth of Health & Home Services in the Piedmont/Triad area. I look forward to serving the population of citizens receiving home care in the area that I call home.  I welcome the opportunity to talk with you and am available to accept referrals for home care services or speak with you about employment opportunities with our agency.

 Joseph Chavez - Corporate Human Resources Coordinator

I initally joined the Health & Home Services team in 2000 and have worked in multiple roles throughout the years with the agency.  In 2008, I left the HR role to pursue other interests and further my education.  I returned as Human Resources Coordinator in 2014 and have enjoyed seeing employees that have been with the agency for many years, as well as meeting new employees.  My position is as HR for recruiting and personnel for the Hickory location, but also handle all Worker's Compensation, benefits, Employment Commission, policy adherence, personnel compliance and related issues on a corporate level.  I appreciate being able to return to work at a place that really cares about the welfare of their employees and strives to put client care first.  I look forward to assisting you with issues that may arise in your employment.

Samantha Cochran - Human Resources Specialist, Metrolina Office

My experience in healthcare began in 1986 as I attended Central Piedmont Community College and obtained my CNA license. I have over 20 years of experience working in medical and healthcare offices in different positions. I came to work at Health & Home Services in 2002 and have worked in roles as an Administrative Assistant, Human Resources Assistant, Service Coordinator, and Staffing Specialist.  As Human Resources Specilaist, I work closely with applicants and employees for the Metrolina location.  My expertise in the field of Private Duty Nursing requirements and the sense of urgency and pride I take in staffing for the clients and families we serve continues to drive my desire to continue making Health & Home Services the best agency in the area.

My experiences in different areas within the agency has equipped me to be able to market our agency and the services we provide. It also gives me a better understanding of the needs of our clients and supporting our employees as they provide the excellence in care that makes us “THE Difference” in the home care and home health community.

Brittany Alexander - Human Resources Specialist, Piedmont-Triad Office

I joined the Health and Home Services Team in March of 2016. I initially became interested in health care while taking Business Management courses to obtain my bachelor’s degree at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University located in Greensboro, NC. I was quickly intrigued in Occupational Safety and Health Administration so much that I also pursed a certification in OSHA to learn more about the rules and regulations to maintain a safe workplace for employees and to make sure that all individuals are being treated fairly. My knowledge and passion grew as I also joined organizations such as SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management), Toastmasters, and other community service activities such as the Walk to end Alzheimer’s, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Fundraising walk and the Winter Walk for AIDS just to name a few. After graduating from my university with both Business Management and OSHA degrees, I believe that I bring a unique aspect to the agency.  

My job as a Human Resources Coordinator has allowed me to provide those in the health care field with an opportunity to work in a safe environment, providing safety training tools and techniques, and ensuring that employee’s files are in compliance with state and agency regulations.
